It’s Official!

On March 4th, New Castle County and State of Delaware signed a memorandum of understanding which calls for the migration of the New Castle County library catalog into the Delaware Library Catalog- in effect sealing the deal on creating a true statewide public library catalog (not forgetting the Delaware Techs, Wesley College, and Wilmington University, among the other non-public library membership).

This agreement marks the start of realizing one of the Delaware Division of Libraries’ most significant strategic goals- streamlined access to all of the State’s public library resources for anyone living, working, or vacationing in Delaware, with the ability for any library user to access the resources of any library either in-person or via the web. The agreement will also allow for Delaware’s libraries to implement some of the most up-to-date library services to all of their users through centralized upgrades to library management software and online services. Division of Libraries staff have been working for several months now with their counterparts from the New Castle Co. library system to lay the foundation for this complicated project. The goal is to implement the agreement by early Fall, but you’ll be hearing plenty more about it on this blog as we move through the process.
